Lent Week 4 (March 23)

 Lent Week 4 (March 23)

*For this week, your mentee's "Colaborate Student Bible" would be a great resource!*

1. Share your highs & lows!

2. Discussion Guide -

- What is something that frustrates you? (Or who...!)

- How do you express your frustration (anger, disappointment, etc.)?

- Have you ever wanted to run away from something? A situation, scenario, etc...?

- Of course we can't always just run away... so what is your strategy when dealing with a difficult situation?

- When have you felt distant, or even cut off, from God?

- From Jonah 4:1-2 We often want God to be merciful, but not to our enemies. How would you react if some of the people who have hurt you (or others close to you) actually turned their lives around?

Scripture reading - What can you recall about the story of Jonah...?

Jonah 3:9-4:2
9 Who knows? God may relent and change their mind; God may turn from their fierce anger, so that we do not perish.”

10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed God's mind about the calamity that would be brought upon them; and God did not do it.

4 But this was very displeasing to Jonah, and he became angry. 2 He prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord! Is not this what I said while I was still in my own country? That is why I fled to Tarshish at the beginning; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and ready to relent from punishing.

    Reflect
        - In your own words, what do you think these verses are saying?
        - What questions does it raise for you?
        - Is there a character you feel like you relate to?

Notes: Draw a Jonah doodle! (Was Jonah really swallowed by a fish or whale?) Do you fish? What's the biggest fish you've ever caught, or seen?

*Prayer time – Pray for each other’s highs & lows and the following new piece,
Dear God, thank you for (highs). Please be with us in the midst of (lows). Today God I ask, why (fill in your blank here)?! Help me to see your ways.

          Amen.
